Contact your City Councillor today – 2014 Budget

Posted on 22. Jan, 2014 by in Uncategorized

Please contact your City Councillor today, and, in your own words, ask them to:
Support new youth spaces resourced based on the St. Stephen’s Community House model during the 2014 budget process. Parks, Forestry and Recreation’s own research indicates that youth in Toronto are asking for a welcoming place to go and be. Community agencies, groups, youth workers, and youth have been working for more than two years to see new youth spaces introduced in Toronto’s community centres. We’re asking City Council to base the budget on the St. Stephen’s model – they’ve been running, evaluating and improving their youth space for many years. We also ask that the youth spaces be aligned with the Toronto Youth Equity Framework, and include a strong community advisory component. Finally, it’s important to be clear: one staff without team support, specialized training, supplies and an evidence-based program is NOT a youth space.
